The word oida is the English transliteration for the perfect tense of the Greek verb “to know” (εἴδω).  The prefect tense carries with it the joint ideas of completed action and continuing effect.  Thus oida is a form of knowing which has enduring impact.  It is a knowing which has come by insight and once acquired deeply embeds itself into the way we think, feel and act.  Once gained, such ingrained insight shapes all future perspective and actions.  Similar to the English word “realized”, oida speaks of both the moment of insight and a sense of fulfilment.
